Providence Cancer Center nursing student starts beading circle in ...

An oncology nursing student at
Providence Cancer Center in Northeast Portland has started a beading circle to
raise money for cancer research and patients with cancer.

April Mar invites Providence staff and community members, cancer patients and family members of patients to join her? twice a month to create beaded bracelets.

Each piece of jewelry is adorned with a mini ribbon, and each bead color represents a different type of cancer. The bracelets are $20 each.

The beading circle meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Cancer Center. It started Jan. 5.

Half of the money raised will go to cancer support services to help pay for medical items insurance won't cover. The other will go to the cancer research department. She hopes to raise between $6,000 and $8,000 by the cancer luncheon on May 11. So far, she has raised $2,500.
