Alpine Physical Therapy at the Mountain West Cross Country ...

On Saturday, September 29th,?Alpine Physical Therapy returned to staff the medical aid tent at the Mountain West Cross Country Classic Race. This year the smoke cleared for a gorgeous autumn morning, and we had an approximate turnout of 2,100 runners from 63 schools in the Northwest.

The cross country race is held on the rolling hills of the University of Montana Golf Course. It was another exciting day of awesome record-breaking run times and a busy tent with a volunteer Athletic Trainer, multiple Nurse Practitioners from the community, Doctors of Physical Therapy Jamie Terry & Brace Hayden of Alpine PT, along with Alpine support staff.

We did our best to triage the constant flow of running injuries from ankle sprains, knee pains, to abrasions and even a possible spinal cord injury. It was a highly valuable and rewarding opportunity to work with so many great middle school and high school aged runners and volunteer support staff.

Andrew Gardner returned from Mead High School in Spokane, Washington, to take his 3rd Mountain West XCC victory. Andrew beat his previous record from last year by thirteen seconds?finishing three miles in 14 minutes and 25 seconds. ?Makena Morley from Bigfork High School also ran a fantastic race finishing 1st for varsity women with a time of 17 minutes and 7 seconds.

Alpine Physical Therapy offers a specialized Runners Clinic for runners looking for a thorough evaluation of their current running injury or advice on improving their performance. More information can be found by clicking here.

We would like to thank Michele Chalmers and the other good folks at Mountain West Track Club for this community partnership opportunity.? Big kudos to Missoula Emergency Services, the many volunteer nurses, as well as Winter, the Super Athletic Trainer, for all of their assistance in getting efficient medical attention to the athletes.

More information can be found about them on their website by clicking here.? For additional information on the race and results click here.
